Urushiol V decreased FoxM1 expression and consequently inhibited cell proliferation of SW480 colon cancer cells. 5-FU exerts an antitumor activity by blocking the activity of thymidylate synthase (TS), an enzyme essential for DNA replication. However, prolonged use of 5-FU leads to drug resistance through increasing expressions of FoxM1 and TS. Urushiol V suppressed expressions of FoxM1 and TS, and enhanced anti-proliferative activity of 5-FU against resistant colon cancer cells (SW480/5-FUR).
